Kia Māia is a university paper that aims to give student designers the basic knowledge and confidence to engage with Te Ao Māori. It will encourage students to explore their position within Te Ao Māori by expanding their knowledge of Māori principles and how they can apply them both personally and professionally.
Students would participate in a variety of classes aiming to explore their identity, Te Ao Māori and the intersection between the two.
During the course, students would work towards creating a media-agnostic Taonga to explore how they relate to the indigenous culture of Aotearoa. To demonstrate, I designed a Taonga of my own in the form of a book.
